Essense Thompson

Dance Instructor

Essense Thompson is a dancer, choreographer, and instructor from Chicago. She has been dancing since the age of five, training at the Mayfair Academy of Fine Arts and further honing her skills through prestigious programs such as Joffrey Ballet, Hubbard Street, Alvin Ailey, and Pulse Dance Convention. Throughout her journey, she earned scholarships and accumulated unforgettable experiences that shaped her into the artist she is today.

Essense has had the opportunity to perform on prominent stages, including the Harris Theater and Arie Crown Theater, as well as at community events and national dance competitions like the American Dance Awards, Starbound, and Legacy Competition. She served as the captain of the Kenwood Academy Pom Team and later danced for Florida A&M University’s Mahogany Dance Theatre and Venom Pom Team.

Now, she enjoys teaching and sharing her passion for dance with the next generation. Her classes emphasize technique, expression, and confidence, creating an environment where dancers feel encouraged, challenged, and excited to dance. While she enjoys teaching various styles, lyrical dance is her favorite because it tells a story and evokes deep emotions. Whether it’s heartfelt lyrical, bold jazz, or upbeat hip-hop, she strives to make every class meaningful and fun.
